Dr. Gerardo A. Caballero MD, FACS
Dr. Gerardo Adan Caballero Rodriguez attended Medical School at the Universidad Autonoma de Tamaulipas in Tampico, Tamaulipas, Mexico graduating in 1983. He came to Milwaukee to do his residency in General Surgery at the Medical College of Wisconsin with a brief appointment as a Junior Registrar in General Surgery at the John Radcliffe Hospital at the University of Oxford in England.
Dr. Caballero has served as both Director of Surgical ICU (1997-2004) and Chief of Surgery (2005-2007) for St. Luke’s Medical Center in Milwaukee.
He served as chairman of the Ethics Committee at St. Francis Hospital from 1995 to 2003. Prior to becoming a doctor, Dr. Caballero was an instuctor at both the Junior High and University level in Mexico. He has continued his interest in youth education through his volunteer work with the National Scouts and venture troops, traveling as far as Thailand for the World Scout Jamboree.
Dr. Caballero shares his surgical skills with many missionary outreach programs including Helping Hands Medical Mission (El Salvador, 2003) and Training Laparoscopic Surgeons in El Salvador (2004) and most recently in Ecuador (2008). He has also collaborated with two health care groups to establish laparoscopic surgical services in his home country, Mexico.
Dr. Caballero is member of several professional Surgical societies, including Society of Hyperbaric and Underwater Medicine and Society Surgeons of the Alimentary Tract. He has a strong interest in laparoscopic surgical techniques performing highly technical surgeries and has refined the techniques for anterior access to the lumbar spine for fusion. The surgeries he performs vary from small in-office or outpatient surgeries to complicated procedures that require hospital stays.
Outside of work, Dr. Caballero is married with five children. He is a certified divemaster and enjoys international travel.
Dr. James L. Mahoney MD, FACS
Dr. James Mahoney has been in General Surgery practice in Milwaukee since 1992. He attended Medical School at the LSU School of Medicine in Shreveport, Louisiana and came to Milwaukee in 1983 to do his Residency training at the Medical College of Wisconsin.
Read More »After 4 years of active duty as a surgeon in the U.S. Navy Medical Corps, he returned to Milwaukee to join a group practice. As a result of his consistent hard work and as a recognition of his leadership qualities, Dr Mahoney served as Chief of Surgery at St Lukes Medical Center from 2002 to 2004 and he most recently served as President of his group practice Southeast Surgical. He has also served as a Clinical Preceptor for the Marquette University Physician Assistant Program for many years.
Dr Mahoney’s interests include advanced laparoscopic surgery, esophageal surgery, hernia surgery and surgery for malignant melanoma. He often works with other surgical specialists to perform highly technical surgery on the esophagus, the lumbar spine or the urinary tract. As a surgical specialist, the surgeries that are performed vary from small in-office procedures, to outpatient surgery or larger, more complicated procedures that require a stay in the hospital. It is this variety of his day to day practice that keeps him interested and professionally fulfilled.
Outside of work, Dr Mahoney is married and has two children. He is active in his church his children’s activities. He likes to remain physically active and enjoys swimming, bicycle riding and an occasional round of golf with friends.
